Christina Surdhar is a freelance writer and author. Her first book is Bloody British History: York, published by The History Press in September 2013. She is currently working on a second, Leeds in the Great War, Pen & Sword Books, November 2014.
Christina travelled after leaving school and lived in both France and Italy. She later studied Language and Linguistics at the University of York, then worked for a daily advertising paper in London. It was when she became a full-time housewife and mother in Suffolk that she began writing, and also developed her interest in stories of the past. Christina’s main areas of writing interest are history, travel and language. She now lives in a village on the outskirts of York with her husband and children.
Bloody British History – York
The History Press 2013
This is the history of York as you have never encountered it before! Travel back to a time when Erik Bloodaxe was resident monarch, or when William the Conqueror was in the middle of his relentless ‘harrying of the north’. There are no tea rooms or hanging baskets in this York, but the severed heads on the walls have a certain decorative effect and there are plenty of places to stay if you don’t mind risking cholera, and the plague. York has been the backdrop to some of the most significant and bloody events in British history. Read on if you dare!
