About Me
I’m a writer of urban fantasy, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary. A friend, who really should know better, called it, ‘Fantasy without the hobbit s***’, which seemed a little harsh. But I do like to mix in aspects of day to day life into takes of dark magic and nightmares come to life. I like to keep one foot on the ground at all times.

There are also some spiritual aspects to my writing (I’ve had God as one key character and the hero of The Veil is a vicar) but I certainly don’t write religious fiction. In fact one chain of bookshops described Chosen as heretical, which I wanted to turn into a t-shirt. But faith, love and sacrifice do tend to crop up in all my work.

I’ve self-published two novels and have recently finished my third, which I’m in the process of editing.

I also write non-fiction and have contributed to a motoring encyclopaedia (1001 Cars) as well as numerous articles for technology magazines. I was a BBC journalist for a decade, ending up as a reporter for Radio One Newsbeat. I then ran my own audio business for twelve years.

I’m now freelance, mixing writing with my work with sound. I live in York with my wife and children.

My Books

The Veil
Self published 2012 ebook
Genre: Urban fantasy
Set in York? Partially
Description: Something is not right in the village of Henchcombe. Terrible things walk the streets. The villagers’ deepest, darkest terrors come to life. It’s up to a group of villagers to come to the rescue. They face a journey deep underground to a place none of them could have imagined.
Reviews: ‘As a simple story of English villagers battling the evil that threatens to claim their home, it’s engrossing and enjoyable, but it’s also much deeper than that, telling us something about where evil comes from, about fear and despair, but also about love, self-sacrifice, faith and friendship.’

Reviews: ‘A promising debut… There were moments in the book that allowed me to lose myself within its pages and this is what first-class fantasy is all about.’
